Community Guidelines
SwapMate is for genuine, fair and respectful swapping. These guidelines help keep our community friendly, useful and safe for everyone.
Be honest and clear
Describe your listing accurately. Be clear about the condition of items, what you are offering and what you would like in return.
If something has a fault, damage or limitation, please say so. Good swaps start with honest communication.
Keep it cash-free
SwapMate is for exchanges between members, not buying and selling.
Listing credits are only used to post ads on the site. Members should not request or offer cash payments as part of a swap.
Be kind and respectful
Treat other members with the same respect you’d expect yourself.
Harassment, bullying, threats, abusive behaviour, discrimination or hateful content have no place on SwapMate.
Protect your privacy
Think carefully about the personal information you share.
Use a general location rather than your full home address, and avoid posting personal contact details publicly in your listing.
Swap safely
Use your judgement when arranging a swap. If you’re meeting someone you don’t know, consider choosing a public place and letting someone you trust know where you’re going.
Never feel pressured to go ahead with a swap you’re uncomfortable with.
Prohibited listings
The following are not permitted on SwapMate:
-
Illegal, stolen or unsafe items.
-
Weapons or controlled substances.
-
Adult services.
-
Counterfeit goods.
-
Financial services, loans or investment schemes.
-
Medical treatments or prescription items.
-
Harassment, discrimination or hateful content.
-
Spam, scams or misleading listings.
-
Anything that is illegal or intended to cause harm.
Be responsible
Make sure anything you offer is yours to give or exchange and that you have the right to offer it.
For tickets, memberships, event entries and similar items, make sure any transfer or exchange is allowed by the organiser’s terms.
If something doesn’t feel right
Trust your instincts. You can choose not to proceed with a swap if something feels uncomfortable, unsafe or misleading.
Please report suspicious, inappropriate or potentially fraudulent listings or behaviour to SwapMate so they can be reviewed.
A little kindness goes a long way
SwapMate works because people are willing to share what they have, what they know and what they can do.
Let’s keep it friendly, honest and fair — and remember there’s a real person on the other side of every listing.
